AirPods, one of Apple’s most popular products after the iPhone, are set to get an upgrade. According to Bloomberg, Apple is adding a real-time translation feature that will be introduced in a software update. This innovation will work without the need to ask Siri to listen to a specific language. The feature will automatically detect when someone is speaking in another language and translate it into your own language.
Google’s Pixel Buds have had this option since 2020. With the addition of the Translate app in iOS 14, Apple took a big step, but without expanding this plan further.
The update follows another AirPods innovation, the ability to test your hearing using AirPods Pro. Real-time translation could be another reason for users to never take off their headphones. Added to this is the word that Apple could integrate heart rate monitoring like it did with the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2, leaving room for the implication that the headphones could become an inseparable accessory like the Apple Watch.
