The Audi factory in Brussels is set to close after negotiations between workers and management failed. 3 jobs will be affected, while production may end in early 2025.
As German media reports, the dispute over the social plan has escalated, positions between management and employee representatives have become strained, and an agreement seems no longer possible. “Audi was ready for compromise until the end. Unfortunately, the social partners rejected our latest, even improved, offer. That is the reason why we are now preparing to approach the employees directly with an offer”, explained the director of production of Audi, Gerd Walker, reports “CapitalAuto”.
The company said the sixth and final round of talks broke down on Wednesday.
The talks have taken place as employees have demanded better wages, while Audi has tried to cut jobs. Workers do not agree to compensation if they quit. Volkswagen started production in Brussels on April 7, 1949. Audi has been in crisis in 2024 due to high production costs and declining sales, especially of electric cars.
