Samsung is considering launching its tri-fold phone in the United States. The company is still evaluating markets for the device, which is expected to launch later this year, but sources told CNN that the United States is part of the plan. This is important because Samsung often launches new products in markets such as South Korea and China. Huawei has also released a tri-fold phone, but its products are not sold in the United States. In the summer, Samsung introduced its seventh-generation foldable phone and is preparing a new version of the Galaxy S Edge for next year.
The tri-fold phone, which folds in two to create a larger screen, will be the most radical change to Samsung’s lineup since the foldable model was released in 2019. The company has not provided any details other than a plan to launch it by the end of the year.
Samsung has shared concepts of a tri-fold device. One of them, the Flex G, opens like a leaflet, while the Flex S prototype folds both outwards and inwards, creating an “S” shape and bringing three screens into one device. Next year, Samsung will release a new Galaxy S25 Edge model that is a direct rival to the iPhone Air. The company’s philosophy of making devices thinner will also be applied to new products, including the Galaxy S series. However, it remains to be seen whether this will affect sales growth after The Elec reported in June that sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge were not meeting expectations.
