Norway record with electric cars, 9 out of 10 vehicles that were sold were with batteries!

Despite being one of the largest oil producing countries in Europe, Norway exceeded all expectations regarding electric vehicles. 9 out of 10 cars sold through 2024 in the Nordic country were electric, putting Norway within the target to completely eliminate internal combustion cars.

Norway’s policies aimed at phasing out gasoline and diesel cars due to high taxes, while exempting electric vehicles from import and value-added taxes.

According to official data from the Norwegian Road Federation, fully electric vehicles accounted for 88.9% of new cars sold in 2024, up from 82.4% in 2023.

The European Union has decided to ban the sale of cars that emit carbon dioxide by 2035, but may allow the sale of cars that run on fuel produced from captured CO2. The increase in the proportion of electric cars on Norway’s roads means that other sectors must also adapt, as petrol pumps have been replaced by fast electric chargers at gas stations and petrol stations.
