After more than a decade, Meta is developing a dedicated version of Instagram for the iPad. Until now, iPad users have been forced to use the enlarged version of the iPhone app, a solution that doesn’t take advantage of the potential of the large screen.
The reason behind this change, according to The Information, may be related to the legal uncertainties TikTok is facing in the US, including pressure to sell and potential taxes. This situation may have prompted Meta to exploit new growth opportunities.
For years, Instagram executives, including Adam Mosseri, have claimed that the lack of an iPad version was due to priorities and limited resources.
But continued user requests and improvements to the user experience through Stage Manager and the web version have made the need for a dedicated app increasingly apparent. Meta has not yet given an official release date for this app.
