TikTok is one of the most used apps, with millions of users around the globe. But if you are under the age of 16, your experience on the app will change. The app has now launched a new mindfulness command called “Wind Down.” This tool will help teenage users calm down before bed and reduce their time on the app until late. “Wind Down” will be automatically activated if a teenager is on the app after 22:00 PM, cutting off the “supply.” The command will have full control over the screen and will activate soothing music instead of videos. Teenage users will then be given the option to continue scrolling or stop.
If the teen decides to spend additional time on TikTok after this first reminder, they will then be presented with a second, hard-to-remove, full-screen prompt.
It is believed to be the first time a social media platform has issued a direct warning to users and comes as part of a broader update from TikTok. The app also includes new parental control tools, including a feature called “Time Away,” which allows parents to block teens from TikTok during specific times, such as family meals, school, at night or during vacations. Until now, TikTok and other social media platforms have allowed parents to set screen time limits at night, but not specific times during the day.
