People are creating “perfect AI girlfriends” and entering into relationships with chatbots. Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, recently shared his concerns about young people creating romantic partners with AI and said he believes dating AI will actually increase loneliness. Schmidt said that an emotionally and physically “perfect” AI partner could create a scenario in which a younger man becomes obsessed and allows the AI to take over their thinking. “This kind of obsession is possible,” Schmidt is quoted as saying. “Especially for people who are not fully formed.” Of course, young people are not the only people involved in AI relationships.
The CEO of AI dating app Replika has said that the majority of the app’s users are over 35. But Schmidt believes that young people are particularly vulnerable. The former Google executive also said he is particularly concerned about the impact of technology on the human psyche when users are isolated and computers feed them information that is not necessarily focused on human values. Schmidt said parents need to be more involved, but they can only control what their children are doing to a certain extent.
Although there are “all kinds of age-related rules” for online platforms, Schmidt said they are not doing enough to prevent teenagers from accessing harmful content. Recall that Google Gemini AI can now remember users’ personal information. Google’s Gemini chatbot, powered by artificial intelligence, has a new feature that allows it to remember information about users’ personal lives, the company said in a statement. If, for example, you ask the Gemini chatbot to remember the food you like and the next time you ask it for restaurant recommendations, it will adapt the restaurant selection to your preferences.
