Controversies about Donald Trump’s approach to the “Ukraine issue” continue. Discussions about what Trump will do with Ukraine range from leaving it in the mud to declaring that he will be even tougher than Joe Biden. However, for now it is difficult to say what Trump is thinking and what he will do, but he will certainly come up with some kind of peace plan considering that during the campaign he announced the end of the war “in 24 hours”.
Despite the fact that Ukraine was not among the “top ten issues” of the pre-election campaign, this issue will be one of the most important priorities of Trump’s foreign policy, along with, of course, the situation in the Middle East and economic relations with China.
PLAN FOR CRIME

However, the fact that Trump “surrendered” immediately from his associate Bryan Lanza is evidence that Trump is hesitating. In an interview for the BBC, Lanza told the Ukrainians that they can forget about Crimea, that is, that they will have the support to “liberate all the occupied territories”. However, Trump’s circle immediately reacted and denied it. As Reuters reports, Trump’s staff said that “Lanza cannot speak for Trump”, even that he does not work for Trump. So here’s where Trump made a move now that he’s become president.
PUTIN’S GOALS
Of course, with a certain amount of territory passed to Putin, this is now moot. So that article is also absolutely unacceptable. Furthermore, there is a proposal that the “rest” of Ukraine cannot join NATO for 20 years, but will have “security and guarantees” from the US and the European Union. And this is an unacceptable article for both Kiev and the Kremlin.
The Russians, let’s repeat, want Ukraine in their full sphere of influence. Therefore, “security guarantees” to Moscow are also unacceptable. Russia starts from its “security interests” and they are completely clear. And that’s all – Russia, at least for the moment, will not agree to “any kind of peace”, nor a freeze in the conflict on the current battle line.
Ceasefire date
Thus, the Prime Minister of Poland, interviewed by the broadcaster of Radio Polskie, announced that he expects that “a date” will soon be indicated for the ceasefire in Ukraine. Not only that: declarations on the definition of its borders and security guarantees for Kiev are also expected soon. Tusk also noted that the plan of the new US president, Donald Trump, may still be in development. “These will certainly be decisions that will result in less US interference in Ukrainian affairs,” he added.
In the last hours, even Viktor Orban, who spoke at a press conference in Budapest at the end of the summit of the European Political Community, pressed and indicated the ceasefire as a precondition for communication, which in turn is a necessary requirement for peace. The prospects of a ceasefire, however, worry Volodymyr Zelensky quite a bit. The Ukrainian president spoke of “dangerous discussions” and recalled the efforts of 2014, the loss of Crimea and finally the full-scale invasion of Russia in 2022.
