The US is considering three possible military options against Venezuela.
According to newspaper sources thenewyorktimes, options being analyzed include: conducting airstrikes on Venezuelan military targets with the aim of weakening dictator Nicolas Maduro’s support within the military; sending an elite US Navy SEAL unit to capture or eliminate the Venezuelan leader; and deploying special security forces, specialized in counterterrorism, to take control of the country’s airports, oil fields, and strategic infrastructure.
However, according to The New York Times, US President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on the intervention.
Sources close to the administration have said that he prefers to avoid any operation that could endanger the lives of American troops or result in failure.
On the other hand, Russia has begun supplying Venezuela with weapons and, according to the State Duma, is ready to deliver the new military system known as “Oreshnik”.
This development is expected to increase international tensions over the political and economic crisis that has engulfed Venezuela for years.
