US President Donald Trump seems determined to achieve his goal of bringing Greenland under US administration. He recently expressed confidence that the US will take control of Greenland. “I think we will. The 57 people on the island want to be with us,” Trump told reporters on Saturday aboard Air Force One during the flight.
Donald Trump wants the US to buy Greenland. He floated this scenario during his first term as President, and he has brought it up again now, as he says it is a matter of national security for America.
A few days ago he had a tense phone conversation with the Prime Minister of Denmark, who told him that Greenland is not for sale. The island is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but is self-governing.
“I don’t know what Denmark’s claim is, but it would be a very hostile act if they didn’t allow it to happen because it’s about protecting the free world. I think we’re going to take Greenland because it’s about protecting the freedom of the world. We’re the ones who can provide freedom, they can’t,” President Trump said. Both Greenland’s and Denmark’s leaders have opposed the U.S. purchase of the island.
