US President Donald Trump has confirmed that his relationship with Elon Musk has improved significantly after months of tensions and public clashes. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, en route to Japan, Trump said he is in touch with the Tesla founder and Platform X owner, and that he has “always liked” him.
“I’ve always liked Elon. He went through a tough time, a bad period. But I like Elon, and I suspect I always will,” Trump said, according to Politico.
The two recently met at Charlie Kirk’s funeral in Arizona, and since then, according to Trump, they have spoken “occasionally.”
The development marks a new phase of normalization in relations between the two figures, after a tense summer of public attacks. The conflict began after Musk left open the possibility of supporting anti-Republican candidates, and even creating a new political party, called the “Party of America.”
At that time, Trump had warned Musk of “very serious consequences” if he pursued his plans, and had even signaled possible measures through the Government Efficiency Agency, where Musk had had an advisory role.
According to Politico, the recent rapprochement between Trump and Musk could have significant political and economic consequences in the run-up to the 2026 and 2028 elections, signaling a possible alliance between politics and technology business in the United States.
