Thirteen years after he led the delegation of Serbia in the dialogue with Kosovo, former chief negotiator Borko Stefanović accuses the president of his country, Aleksandër Vučić, and the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, of lack of will in reaching a comprehensive agreement. Volunnet in Serbia, he says that he does not even want to arrest the main person responsible for the Banjka attack, Milan Radoicic, whom he called a person close to the president of Serbia
Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, do not have the will to reach a comprehensive agreement, the former chief negotiator of Serbia in the dialogue, Borko Stefanović, who heads an opposition party, has assessed. Some 13 years after serving as head of the Serbian delegation at the start of the EU-facilitated dialogue, Stefanovic says that in order to move forward in this process, both Kosovo and Serbia must implement the agreed agreements.
“I think that Vuçiqi must implement what he has accepted and Mr. Kurti must implement what he has accepted. It’s that simple. I don’t know why they are playing this game. Actually, I know. I know, because Mr. Kurti has elections, so he must be popular and Mr. Vuçiqi wants to stay in power at all costs,” he said.
Although a political opponent of Vučić, Stefanović shares the same position with the president of Serbia regarding the request for the creation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, as well as the opposition to the recognition of Kosovo’s citizenship.Last year, Kosovo and Serbia agreed in Brussels on the Basic Agreement for the normalization of relations.
Prime Minister Kurti considers that eight of its 11 articles have been violated by the Serbian side. Among the violations, I mention that of territorial integrity, in the case of the attack in Banjska, when the Serbian paramilitary group, led by Milan Radojciqi, killed the police sergeant, Afrim Bunjaku, in an attempt to annex the north of Kosovo.
The former chief negotiator Stefanovic says that those responsible for the attack should be imprisoned immediately, but adds that Radoicic has a personal closeness to Vucic. “They are very close personally, they are very close politically, very close financially. It is a mystery to me how this man is still at large. It’s very mysterious and I don’t think it’s good and I don’t think it’s acceptable,” he said.Stefanović is currently the vice-president of the Party of Freedom and Justice, as well as a deputy in the Assembly of Serbia.
