NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Tuesday called for the US to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine and that Europe would foot the bill, Reuters reports.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the NATO chief said the alliance should invest more in defense, increase defense industrial production and provide more assistance to Ukraine.
Rutte added that “in Ukraine, we need the US to stay involved.”
“If the Trump administration continues to supply Ukraine with weapons from its defense industry, the bill will be paid by the Europeans, I am convinced of that. We have the will to do this,” Rutte said.
The NATO secretary’s comment came after US President Donald Trump said this week that the European Union should do more to support Ukraine. “We must increase aid to Ukraine, the front is moving in the wrong direction,” Rutte added.
