US military activities in the Caribbean, including the deployment of a large naval and air force to the Region, have significantly increased Venezuelan concerns. In this context, strengthening cooperation with allies such as Russia, China and Iran becomes a key part of Venezuela’s defense strategy, which aims to preserve its sovereignty and ensure the country’s stability in the face of international pressure.
Venezuela has decided not to remain passive in the face of intensifying threats and provocations from the United States, which has increased its military presence in the Caribbean and on its borders. At a time when tensions between Caracas and Washington are at their peak, the government of Nicolas Maduro has responded by strengthening the country’s defense capabilities through a new strategy that includes the purchase of advanced weapons from international allies.
This includes, in addition to air defense systems, long-range missiles, which could put Venezuela in a stronger position in the face of pressure from the US and its allies. To achieve this objective, Caracas has sought the help of US rivals Russia, China and Iran, to strengthen air and missile defenses and guarantee its autonomy and sovereignty in a geopolitically hot Region.
PROTECTION SYSTEM
The Buk-M2E system, also known as the SA-17 Grizzly by NATO, is a powerful missile weapon that will contribute to strengthening Venezuela’s air defenses. This system has the ability to attack a wide range of aerial threats, from fighter jets and helicopters to drones and cruise missiles. Equipped with advanced radars and missiles with a range of up to 45 kilometers, the Buk-M2E will significantly increase the possibilities of a rapid response to any air attack. One of the main advantages of the system is its tactical mobility: the Buk-M2E is mounted on 6×6 vehicles that can be quickly repositioned after each launch, reducing the possibility of being hit by the enemy. This system is an important addition to Venezuela’s defense chain, making it more resistant to air and naval attacks.
SUPPLY FROM RUSSIA
In addition to air defense systems, Russia could supply Venezuela with other advanced missiles, such as the Oreshnik system. This supersonic missile system, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, is one of the most powerful weapons that can be used to strike distant targets, including Europe. Alexei Zhuravlev, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee, has stressed that Russia is ready to send Oreshnik missiles to Venezuela as part of its ongoing commitment to this important partner.
According to reports, the Oreshnik missiles can hit any target on the European continent in less than an hour, using up to six independent warheads, each of which can be nuclear. This capability will provide a high level of defense for Venezuela, positioning it in a strong position in the face of external threats.
COOPERATION WITH CHINA AND IRAN
In addition to assistance from Russia, Venezuela has also sought support from China and Iran to strengthen its military capabilities. According to journalists and analysts, Venezuela has requested technology for GPS jamming, surveillance and the use of long-range drones. This request is part of a broader strategy that includes strengthening the ability to prevent potential intrusions and to protect the country’s air and maritime space.
