Prague bans the use of electric scooters completely

The Prague city council has approved a resolution that foresees a complete ban on electric scooters starting from January 2026, making the Czech capital one of the last European cities to take strong measures against this form of transport. The resolution, adopted on Monday, aims to revise the rules of shared transport and define permitted parking areas for bicycles – both traditional and electric. As a result, companies offering electric scooters will have to remove them from circulation by this year.

“Electric scooters are killing it!” wrote Zdeněk Hřib, deputy mayor and representative of the Pirate Party, on the X platform. He added that “the new rules will help clear public spaces of the chaotic traffic of scooters, which are often used in the city center as a tourist attraction, causing chaos on the streets and obstructing pedestrians.” The new measures come after residents’ concerns about safety and tranquility in the busiest areas of Prague, where part of the center has already banned their use.
