While many traditional tourist destinations are facing mass tourism, a growing number of visitors are looking for places that are quieter and more pristine. Travel experts, according to an article published in the American magazine “World Footprints”, have recommended 10 new destinations to visit this year, among which Albania leads.

From emerging hotspots to hidden treasures, these destinations promise unique adventures, writes Tonya Fitzpatrick in this article.

According to this travel magazine, Albania is fast becoming the most sought-after destination in the Mediterranean.

Known for its azure waters, beautiful coastal towns like Saranda and ancient ruins like those of Butrint, this Balkan gem offers a fresh alternative to overcrowded, more touristy destinations like Greece or Croatia.

“Albania remains among the tourist destinations to visit in 2025. It offers history, landscapes and Mediterranean beauty at a more affordable cost compared to the most popular European destinations,” said Tom Hall, vice president of Lonely Planet.

The Albanian Riviera is home to pristine beaches and crystal clear waters – while highlights in the small Mediterranean country’s interior – include the mountaineer-favourite Bjeshke e Nemuna – and Gjirokastra, a UNESCO World Heritage town, famous for its Ottoman-era architecture.

As the infrastructure continues to improve, Albania has decided to facilitate access to its authentic and undiscovered attractions, the American magazine said.

In an era when mass tourism is reshaping popular destinations, exploring places like Albania offers not only a more intimate experience, but also the opportunity to support sustainable practices.
